Hi! For the first post I would like to introduce a book that I am reading in class which is "Fast food nation: the dark side of all-American meal"
It is a famous book by Eric Scholisser, which points out the dangers hidden in fast food. We tend to eat fast foods with out any thoughts or doubt. However, most people don't fully understand what we're eating. Who is making it? How is it made? What ingredients does it use? Are they really safe? I like fast food but I often hear dark rumors about them and was a little suspicious of its health affects. So I thought this book was very good for me in order to understand more about it.
The book is roughly split in to two parts. First part introduces the history of fast foods and about fast food industry itself. Second half explains about ingredients used in fast foods such as beefs and chips. The author writes about farms based on what he saw and the reality he heard from people. Right now I'm in the middle of reading first half of the book. So I've only read the brief history of fast food and introduction of Mc Donald's. I haven't got to the main section of the book yet so I am looking forward of reading the rest.
There's a film version of this book. I hear that it's a dramatization of the book in that it follows a fictional family and introduces scenes that are fictional, but _based on_ fact. The book, on the other hand, is a work of investigative journalism and therefore non-fiction. I'm looking forward to seeing the film since I haven't had the chance to see it yet.
返信削除Maybe the film makers took the approach of making a drama instead of a documentary because documentaries aren't very popular. People tend to see them as full of facts rather than having human interest. Dramas tell a story that people can relate to more easily on a human level.
